Greensand is a vital part of a hermit crabs diet. It is composed primarily of the mineral Glauconite - a potassium, iron, aluminium silicate, it is naturally mined from sedimentary marine deposits of Glauconite. Greensand contains many essential nutrients, potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, plus as many as 30 other trace minerals. Hermit Crabs naturally come across greensand in the wild, foraging for and consuming it when needed. 
 
Most commonly served in a dish alongside Worm Castings, Insect Frass and a calcium supplement. Additionally you can sprinkle some across your substrate, or mix in with your subsrate when making it, to encourage natural behaviours. You should however always have it on offer in a dish when using this method.

Please note that Greensand varies in colour and texture, ranging from light-dark green, and a fine powder to a coarse granulated sand. It was believed that only "sparkly" greensand is safe for hermit crabs, however after extensive research I have found no evidence to back this up. 1 ingredient, Pure & Organic Greensand is safe, no matter the colour or texture!
